The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement which is celebrated annually around the world, reaches more than 160 million people through its network of around 17 million volunteers and 450,000 staff members.
The Dominica Red Cross reaches out to persons to assist in building safer and stronger communities through a diverse and innovative range of services tailored to local needs. From First Aid to Disaster Risk Management the Society provides these services through the tireless dedication of our volunteers. “Red Cross volunteers are working in numerous communities, giving their commitment, energy and time,” said local Director General Mrs. Kathleen Pinard-Byrne, on commemorating the birthday of the Movement’s founder, Henry Dunant, about 189 years ago. “World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, 8th May, is an opportunity to recognize the contribution & achievements of the millions of volunteers and staff members around the world, who are keeping our commitment to humanity” said Phillip White, President of the Dominica Red Cross. The work of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – comprised of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and 190 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies draws on more than 150 years of humanitarian action. In recognition of World Red Cross Day, 19 volunteers will be enrolled as members of the National Society, of which 15 are Youth. The Dominica Red Cross promotes the involvement of all persons, who wish to make a difference in improving the lives of people.
