Youth Development Division to host 9thAnnual 4-H Local Dinner Plate Competition and Awards Ceremony5/5/2017 The Youth Development Division will host its 9thAnnual 4-H Local Dinner Plate Competition and Awards Ceremony this Saturday, 6th May 2017, at the Dominica Grammar School. The competition will include twelve representatives from four senior 4-H Clubs.
This year, they will prepare and present a nutritious, tasty and creative local dinner plate comprising a chicken dish and an accompaniment, utilizing as many local agricultural produce as possible. The participants will be from the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, Pierre Charles Secondary School, Convent High School and the Saint Mary’s Academy. The 4-H Local Dinner Plate Competition was conceptualized by the late Dr. Nicholas J.O Liverpool, late President of Dominica, ten years ago. The Youth Development Division is pleased that collaboration is continuing with the Office of the President, and the Liverpool family. Several other partners including business houses contribute to this program, which provides opportunities for the club’s representatives to participate in the preparatory workshops and zonal competitions, prior to the National Competition. Throughout the program, the Clubites will improve their culinary art skills, as their overall interest in the local food industry is developed. The Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, after the Competition. This year’s participants, sponsors and other partners, will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony. For the third time this year, the winner of the 4-H Local Dinner Plate Competition will represent Dominica, at the Caribbean Junior Culinary Conference & Challenge in Barbados in August.
