Over the past few weeks, eighteen inmates participated in the Drug Prevention Unit’s, “Fifth Drug Education Intervention Prison Program”
Each year a number of inmates are selected to participate in the three-month programme by the Drug Prevention Unit in collaboration with Officials of the Dominica Prison Services, which focuses on life skills, drug education, release and reintegration.
At the closing ceremony, Director of the National Drug Prevention Unit Ms. Jacinta Bannis listed some of the sessions held during the program including goal setting, anger management and exploring spirituality.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of certificates to the participants, many of whom seemed genuinely compelled to take control of their lives and avoid a return to prison or drugs.
