25-Year old Martinique Parents Organization named (UPEM), has donated just under 20,000 Euros of school supplies to Dominica. The presentation was made by UPEM’s President Gerard Laguerre on Friday 23rd September 2016, and included chalk, crayons, tapes, workbooks, small notebooks, pens, pencils, baby clothes, notebooks sheets, games and toys, reams of papers, rulers, shirts, scissors, erasers, paper clips, color pencil, paint, beds, water and children and adults clothing.
Ms. Marcella Powell, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education received the donation from the UPEM delegation of two members, lead by its president Gerard Laguerre. They were accompanied by Dominica’s Honorary Counsel in Martinique, Mark Frampton.
Mr Frampton observed that “After Erika, UPEM expressed interest in helping Dominica, and whereas Erika happened more than a year ago, I’m very happy that the delegation is here today, and to finally be able to bring across all the school supplies that they had decided to donate”.
Mr Frampton added that the school supplies are being brought to Dominica through the kind courtesy of L’ Express des Iles Express “and we so I want to thank L’ Express des Iles Express, which will be bringing them here over five rotations”. He confirmed that the overall donation has been “estimated close to about twenty thousand Euros” and will be delivered to the Ministry of Education.
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Marcella Powell thanked the organization for their assistance to Dominica’s children. She said, “We want you to thank your association and express our profound gratitude and appreciation for the school supplies, which will be distributed among the sixty primary schools and fifteen secondary schools on island, as far as possible, starting with the primary schools”.
