A number of communities said to be in a better state of readiness as the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane season begins
As the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane season begins, a number of communities across the island are said to be in a better state of readiness.
This was revealed by Local Government Commissioner, John Fontaine, while addressing the 4th Biennial Annual General Meeting of the Dominica Association of Local Community Authorities (DALCA) on Friday.
The 2016 Atlantic Hurricane season which begins today, is expected to be the most active season since 2012 with a total of 14 named storms and 8 hurricanes with 3 major ones forecasted during the season.
Fontaine says the Local Government Department and DALCA in partnership with the Office of Disaster Management spent in excess of $300,000 in the latter part of 2014 into 2015 in vulnerable communities.
