"We are now in the throes of the dismantling of the culture of Dominica" says Former DLP Government Minister, Atherton Martin. Martin made these remarks as carnival queen contestants struggle for sponsorship, and calypsonians receive warning from a government minister to take precaution with their wit and satire.
He says once the culture of a society is dismantled, it gives rise to a people with no sense of self. Martin describes this warning issued by Tourism Minister Sen. Robert Tonge, as a threat to the calypso art-form. He says the calypso art-form reminds us of who we are, and taking away that capacity is creating a vacuum in society.
Martin made these remarks during Q95's Governance on Q program which he hosts on Monday nights.
