Ag Prime Minister Ian Douglas believes fishing can no longer be considered a sub-sector, but rather must be seen as an industry. Douglas says fishermen are to be looked upon as serious investors, who have built on successful livelihoods from their trade.
Douglas says their success can be attributed to the assistance which Dominica has received from the government of China. He was addressing the official handing over ceremony of equipment to the fisheries division, for the refurbishing and outfitting several fisheries complexes across the island on Monday.
The equipment was made available through grant aid from the government of Japan.
Douglas says not only just the equipment but the training received from Japan is assisting in creating sustainable jobs.
