Alisha Laurent-Smart is Miss Wob UK 2016; and Shadae Sidora Henry of Grand Bay is Ti Matador UK 2016. The competitions took place at the Dominica High Commission in London on 1st October, hosted by the Waitukubuli Culture & Tourism Initiative (WCTI), as the organization’s signature youth event, and has been held for the three years to date.
This initiative which was founded by Dr Violet V Cuffy, embraces the objective of creating increased awareness of Dominica’s creole culture and heritage, in the diaspora youth resident in the United Kingdom.
The 2016/17 executive committee comprises Dr violet V Cuffy (Chair), Brenda Mark-Osbourne (Secretary), Joshua Moses (Treasurer), Isobel Joseph (PRO & Membership), Esther Fadelle-Morris (Immediate Past Chair).
Seven (7) young ladies participated in the event, which contained three (3) rounds: Casual Wear, National Wear and Creole Heritage & a general knowledge question and answer segment. Ria Laurent-Hughes won the Miss Wob 1st Runner Up title, and the other contestants were recognized for embracing Dominica’s heritage & culture.
