Architect Severin McKenzie says, now that so many people are receiving compensation from their insurance companies, there appears to be a challenge in the labour component in the scheme of things, in getting Dominica's housing sector back on track.
He says there are a lot of building materials on island now, but there is still uncertainty with regards to the hurricane shafts which play a very critical role in stabilizing the roofs of homeowners, while most of the damage caused to building following Hurricane Maria was done to the roofs of these structures.
Meanwhile McKenzie says in some cases, persons may have to reconstruct, and not just reroof; and in that case, the structure would have to be re-examined by an engineer, so that the homeowner does not have to return to renovation overtime.
