There have been numerous calls for a Bail Act here and Attorney General, Levi Peter, says he is more confident that this act will be introduced soon as the bill has gone through cabinet. Peter says while he does not expect the Bail act to be the cure-all that many expect it to be, he believes it will codify the existing Common Law Act principles. He says many persons believe that bail appears to have become too obtainable in circumstances where it may not have been so easily available before and this bill when enacted will shift the emphasis. The AG says society has to have certain indicators as to how it views certain behaviour and the Bail Act will seek to assist the Court in that regard. Attorney General, Levi Peter, was speaking on State Radio this week.
