Program Officer at the Banana Accompanying Measures (BAM) Angus McIntyre has been selected to lead Dominica's cause to resume its exportation of bananas to the United Kingdom market.
Exports of Dominica's bananas to the UK have been on the decline for some years, and were cut even shorter about 3 years ago, after the crop was affected by the Black Sigatoka disease. During the 1980’s, Dominica earned over 180 Million dollars annually in banana exports.
McIntyre will reportedly also work with the necessary stakeholders to revive the country's agriculture sector. This was announced by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Harold Guiste.
Guiste says McIntyre has had a lot of experience in the banana industry.
