Banana Tissue Culture Project Coordinator says 55 farmers attend workshop on Black Sigatoka2/15/2016 Banana Tissue Culture Project Coordinator says 55 farmers attended a 1-day theoretical and practical session workshop on Black sigatoka management in tissue culture banana plants. The Workshop held last week sought to strengthen the farmers’ ability to detect and fight the disease. Black sigatoka which was first spotted in Dominica in June 2012 has been affecting the production of banana and plantain crops. Lynch Fevrier is a Banana Tissue Culture Pilot Project Coordinator within the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries. He described the workshop as a success. The Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries with support from the Banana Accompanying Measures (BAM) has been seeking to increase its banana production by 100 acres following devastation from the disease.
