Local Magistrates and lawmen are lamenting the indiscriminate killing of turtles. This following recent reports of turtle hunting in Laplaine and Wesley.
They are expressing their frustration once more over the small penalty which can be imposed by the court on persons convicted of hunting turtles. Currently, persons convicted can be charged up to a mere EC$400. Magistrates, Lawmen and officials of the Wildlife division here have made numerous calls for legislators to revisit the penalty for that crime. Court Reporter, Carlisle Jno Baptiste, has joined those calling for those laws to be amended.
