Director of the Elias Nassief Foundation gives tribute to Joey Astaphan at a recent press conference
Director of the Elias Nassief Foundation Yvor Nassief gave a tribute to Joey Astaphan, at a press conference held at the Fort Young hotel today Thursday 8th December 2016. Nassief says Astaphan was an honest and brilliant man, who excelled in the profession of mechanical engineering. He says Joey Astaphan was seen as a legendary Dominican mechanical engineer, who was born on March 30, 1944 and passed away on October 3, 2016. Nassief said is said Joey’s skills were critical in the installation and maintenance of the mechanical works, at the soap manufacturing firm of Dominica Coconut Products (DCP).
Nassief said DCP was once the lead value adding Agro – Industrial enterprise in the Eastern Caribbean, and under the leadership of Elias and Phillip Nassief, DCP became known as the most innovative soap making enterprise in the Caribbean region, during its heyday years in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, and that gave much pride and self-confidence to our people, in addition to generating a great deal of much needed foreign income.
