Dominica will receive a $10Million Dollars Grant from the Government of Switzerland to assist in the National Low Carbon Transport System which aims to introduce Electric Vehicles to lower emissions released The government of Dominica has set the year 2030, to stop the use carbon driven vehicles and use other means such as electricity-driven vehicles for transportation which will help decrease the number of emissions released into the atmosphere causing the impacts of Climate Change to grow. As a result of that targeted Goal, the Green Climate Fund in collaboration with the government of Dominica has organized a series of workshops to validate the roadmap and to receive input from national stakeholders from around the island. The low carbon Transport program will be done in 3 phases with the first phase to be done by the year 2023. Speaking at the First Low emission Transport Program for Dominica Workshop Tuesday Morning, project manager Verena Arauz said that the grant will be translated into some grants and concessional loans in order to implement the activities such as pedestrian infrastructure, public transports and quality, on demand transportation. Arauz has also expressed concern over the high number of vehicles in Dominica for a small country compared to South America. She says Dominica has 257 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants while the average in Latin America is 200 vehicles and that she says is alarming for a small island developing state.
