Dominicans told to take all necessary precautions as threat of a Zika virus outbreak looms closer1/6/2016 With cases of the Zika Virus being reported in neighbouring island of Martinique, Dominicans are being told to take precautions against this latest mosquito borne disease. The virus is transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, (the same mosquito which spreads Dengue Fever and Chikungunya) and its symptoms include fever, rash, joint pain or Conjunctivitis (Red Eyes).Chief Environmental Health Officer, Anthony Scotland, told the Government Information Service this week, they are finalizing the management strategy to deal with a possible outbreak of the virus here.
