Dominica’s Prime Minister says legislative amendments alone will not fix the sexual abuse of minors3/23/2016 Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says it will take much more than legislative amendments to address the issue of sexual abuse of the country’s youth. In recent weeks there have been increased reports of sexual abuse cases against minors. Skerrit says while his government remains steadfast in its efforts towards effecting change in Dominica’s Sexual Offences Act, a lot more has to be done to address this issue. Last year government appointed legal consultant Ray Harris to look at the provisions in the island’s sexual offences act and make recommendations. A draft amendment bill is currently being reviewed by the office of Attorney General, following which it will be presented to cabinet for approval, and then taken to parliament for passage into law.
