DPSU General Secretary, Thomas Letang, is encouraging unions to extend their reach, emphasizing that unions must begin to go to other areas and provide representation for employees where it would not have represented traditionally. Letang made these comments at a time when the membership of unions continue to decline. Meanwhile he says the stance taken by offshore companies, where they threaten to withdraw their investment if employees join a union is a major factor in the decline in union membership.
Letang believes that from the initial engagement government officials must make it abundantly clear that Dominica’s Constitution in Particular, gives all Dominicans the right to join any union.
