Former Agriculture Minister Atherton Martin is of the view that there may be Ministers and Business people, who are involved in Criminal acts of Sexual Abuse in Dominica.
He notes that in recent times, he has heard calls from people, asking children to show more respect to leaders in society. However, based on official reports in recent times regarding the number of abuse cases that have been filed in the courts, Martin contends that the retaliation shown by children against their leaders, is not surprising.
In 2015 a total of 189 cases of child abuse were reported, and out of those 189 cases, 128 were sexual related matters. Although some cases have been reported and filed for the year, the total number of cases has not yet been confirmed for 2016. Martin says parents and those in leadership can do better, to restore the moral values in Dominican society, and to enhance mutual respect between children and adults.
