Former Agriculture Minister Atherton Martin says the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) does not support the designs of the New National Hospital, to be built on the current Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) site in Goodwill.
Recently, the government of Dominica signed a deal with their Chinese counterparts in the people’s republic of China, to build a new Hospital. In that light it is reported that PAHO sent a team of construction experts to Dominica to review the Chinese designs, based on the criteria they have created for small island states, when building health facilities.
It is reported that PAHO disapproved the Chinese design elements did not meet the standards set pout by PAHO. However, Martin says the PAHO report was never made public, and he also noted that he spoke to two highly trained contractors in Dominica, who also agreed with PAHO’s recommendations.
