Former Agriculture Minister Atherton Martin says there is no short term solution to preventing a repeat of the disaster caused by tropical storm Erika.
He says dredging the rivers can only do so much however replanting trees in catchment areas is an ideal step forward in a long term solution.
Martin's remarks come following the signing of an $18 million contract for the reconstruction of the West Bridge. One component of that project is the dredging of the Roseau River.
