Former IMF Economist Dr. Thompson Fontaine says in recent times, he has heard public statements by some officials here, claiming that Dominica’s Economy is growing. The Economist argues that although some have made this announcement, they never explain to the general populace how in fact the country’s economy is growing.
Dr. Fontaine says when leaders or business people announce a few infrastructural projects, that does not indicate the economy is stable or growing.
Fontaine stressed that the way in which economic growth is measured professionally, is by observing the amount of output or export generated by various sectors of society, after which those statistics are compared to the figures generated from the previous year, and if the results indicate more revenue was generated than the previous year, then one can say that economic growth has occurred.
