We need to acknowledge that Dominica is experiencing a much worse economic crisis than moist other countries, according to former President of Dominica's National Youth Council, Paul Baron. He says as a result there are not enough opportunities for people to contribute their skills to the economy through meaningful employment, establishment of new companies through foreign or other direct investment, or local entrepreneurship. He added that illicit activities are seriously increasing at the moment, our society is starting to see them quite clearly, and this is why we are witnessing such shocking incidents of gun violence, which are almost invariably related to gang violence or the trafficking of illegal drugs. Baron went on further to say that he believes the challenge for government is that of economic prosperity. In most cases, there is always the need to make it equitable and fairly distrusted among the population. Baron notes that in Dominica we have a shrinking middle class, which involves Dominica's youth, its prime energy and talent, which we should now be leveraging in the best interest of our economy.
