Health Minister Dr Kenneth Darroux still trying to allay residents’ fears about swine flu in Dominica
While many continue to speculate as to the presence of Swine flu in Dominica, Health Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux believes there is nothing to fear.
Speaking at a recent press conference, the minister explained the difference between swine flu and the common flu. He said while both H1N1 and H2N3 share genetic traits, H3N2v is a variant virus found in pigs, and has infected some humans.
He says the current H2N3 virus is nothing other than the simple Para influenza virus.
A global pandemic in 2009 was a new strain of H1N1, which resulted when a previous triple re-assortment of bird, swine and human flu viruses, further combined with a Eurasian pig flu virus, and this lead to the term "swine flu”…
