Herbert Xavier of Soufriere has been sentenced to five years and 11 months in jail for manslaughter.
He was originally charged for murder, together with his sisters Manuella Williams and Loretta Xavier, for the death of their brother Harrison Williams in September 2010. That matter was appealed, and the conviction quashed by the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) due to errors made by trial judge Justice Brian Cottle. The trio were later charged with Manslaughter, but the case took a twist when Herbert Xavier pleaded guilty to the charge on 1st March 2016. The charges against his two sisters were dismissed.
