In 2015, Ghonim was deported from Antigua, where he operated a beauty store, two months after 42 year old Leon Martinez was convicted by a US jury as being the hit man in the murder.
Martinez said he and Ghonim had met through mutual acquaintance in 1992. According to the report on the Los Angeles Times "Martinez said, Ghonim asked if he knew anybody who would kill for money.
Martinez had recently traded drugs for a .22-caliber revolver, so he said he would do it.
They didn’t get into many details, Martinez said, but Ghonim told him that he wanted it to look like a robbery. They settled on a price: $20,000".
“He just wanted her dead,” Martinez said.
Ghonim tied the knot with Dominican Miss Dominica 2012 Nadiro Lando in 2014.
