Independence 2016 celebrations have officially been launched!
Under the theme “Strengthening our Commitment to Nation Building”, celebrations kick off this weekend with national days of prayer and thanksgiving, followed by a slew of activities including the inaugural “National Emblems week” to occur from October 17 – 21.
At a media launch for the festivities held at the Government Information Service (GIS) building this morning, Chairman of the Independence celebrations committee, Raymond Lawrence urged Dominicans to wear their Creole dress during the season in support of the activities.
Dominica gained its independence from Britain on November 3, 1978 and celebrates each year with activities of culture and history. Independence 2016 will be Dominica’s 38th anniversary of independence.
