National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmore announces eight (8) new vehicles for Dominica Police Force
Minister of National Security Rayburn Blackmoore announces the addition of eight new vehicles for the Dominica Police Force, Blackmore believes that this resource will boost the department’s efficiency in executing its duties.
At a recent launch of a Community Policing Committee for Calibishie, The Minister said the government will continue to provide resources to the police.
“We have provided in the recent past, new police stations in La Plaine, Calibishie and Grand bay…we continue to provide stations with other physical resources to ensure that the police is properly equipped and although it is not contained in this year’s budget, but the Minister of Finance and Prime Minister during our discussion, have given the commitment to provide the police with additional vehicles,” he stated.
“And I asked of the Police Commissioner to provide me with the list and he has done so, and he has said to me by way of writing that he needs seven, but I reminded him, seven plus one, because we also need one for the community policing program.”
Blackmore added this means that “every department, every police station will be equipped with a new vehicle and in some case two.” Furthermore, he noted that to ensure that the police have adequate coverage, in September 2016 thirty-nine new recruits will be graduating from the training school in Morne Bruce. That will take us [to] well over 500 police officers and of course, we need to have men to do the job.”
