Opposition wants estimates well in advance, to facilitate meaningfully participation in the budget debate
PRO of the UWP Nicholas George laments the Parliamentary Opposition does not form part of the budget preparation process, or is not given the details of the estimates contained in the budget, well ahead of the time that it is presented to Parliament by the Government.
He says Opposition Parliamentarians are allowed to see the estimates in the budget, just one or two days before the actual debate takes place, and are expected to participate in that debate meaningfully, twenty-four hours after its presentation in Parliament, by the Minister for Finance.
George is of the view that budget debates in Dominica are of no value, when they are conducted in the current manner.
