Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has announced that St. Vincent’s New Argyle International Airport will open on February 14, 2016.
Gonsalves said in a radio announcement, Vincentians were looking forward to that day, in anxious anticipating. He said he had planned to make the announcement on New Year’s Day, but after a buzz on social media, he decided to publicly disclose the date sooner.
“I know social media was hinting at it and on Wednesday, 28th December. I had a meeting with all relevant stakeholders to make sure February 14 is a go”, Gonsalves said. The EC$729 million airport has missed several annual construction deadlines since 2011, and has been a major issue in the 2005, 2010 and 2015 general elections.
