PM Skerrit says if Dominica is to successfully fight the Zika virus it must be country wide involvement
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says if Dominica is to successfully fight the Zika virus it must be a “country wide involvement.”
The Ministry of Health has put a plan of action in place to tackle the Zika virus in Dominica which is spread by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
Although there are no reported cases in Dominica, health officials say it will eventually reach the island since neighbouring islands have already reported several cases.
Prime Minister Skerrit says every citizen must play their part to reduce the breeding of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health says because the Zika virus is A-symptomatic it will pose a serious challenge at the country’s ports of entry where surveillance is concerned.
This means that someone could be infected with the virus, and show no symptoms for at least 2 weeks.
Here’s what Surveillance Officer Dr Shaylodin Ahmed told a press conference here recently.
