Prominent Dominican ophthalmologist Dr. Hazel Shillingford Ricketts informs that the WHO and other agencies began an initiative to eliminate blindness by the year 2020, due to the growing population, and the possible economic effects.
Known as the silent thief of sight, glaucoma affects an estimated 9 million individuals worldwide. World Glaucoma Week is celebrated in the second week of March each year, in an effort to raise awareness, and eliminate blindness resulting from glaucoma.
Glaucoma carries many eye diseases under its banner, however the end result is the same – Blindness.
