A new contingency plan for marine oil spills is being implemented in Dominica. A national workshop to develop the plan got underway at the Disaster Office in Jimmit Tuesday. The 3-day workshop is expected to lead to the development of local oil spills response strategy for probable oil spill scenarios in Dominica. Kendell Johnson is the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works & Ports. He says a systematic approach is required which incorporates prevention and preparedness activities, as part of the risk reduction process.
