The Roseau Health Team has taken health promotion into the community with a health walk from the Newtown Health Centre to Pointe Michel as part of Caribbean Wellness Month 2026.
Staff from the Roseau Health District joined community members for the activity, which combined physical exercise, health education and community engagement. Doctors and nurses interacted with residents along the route, sharing practical health information and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices as part of efforts to combat non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. Health Promotion and Drug Prevention personnel also participated, providing information and engaging community members on choices that can contribute to healthier lives. The initiative was presented as an example of the Roseau Health Team leading by example under the theme “Engage. Empower. Elevate.” Organizers said the activity went beyond the physical walk, bringing health education directly into communities and reinforcing the importance of making small, everyday choices that can contribute to better health. The initiative also highlighted the role of collective action, with participants encouraged to walk, learn and make healthier choices together as part of efforts to build healthier individuals and stronger communities.
