Senior Environmental Health Officer advises to avoid flood waters to prevent contraction of Leptospirosis
Senior Environmental Health Officer, Sylvester St Ville, is advising Dominicans to avoid flood waters in order to prevent contracting Leptospirosis.
This advice comes at a time when the island experiences heavy rainfall.
He says flood waters carry many organisms including the Leptospira organism which transmits Leptospirosis.
Signs and symptoms of Leptospirosis can range from none to mild such as headaches, muscle pains, and fevers; to severe with bleeding from the lungs or meningitis.
