Seven 2016 National Queen Show contestants still have no sponsors; as the 5th February date for the show draws nearer. The Carnival committee says it is operating at a loss this year, and organizers are continuing to appeal to the private sector, to come on board for the Carnival.
“These ladies have been working extremely hard, it’s six ladies and they certainly want to put on a most fantastic, amazing show for the Dominican public and to date there is still the struggle for sponsorship for those young ladies,” Marketing and Communications Executive for FLOW Dominica, Ferdina Frampton said while delivering an address at the third Carnival press conference on Wednesday. “It may not be a full sponsorship that you can give, it may be half, it may be a quarter but little goes a long way in times like these and in situations like these.”
Flow Dominica is a major sponsor for Carnival 2016, and Marketing & Communications Executive for FLOW Dominica, Ferdina Frampton is appealing for sponsors for the contestants. Frampton, who is also a member of the Queen Show Committee, pointed out that the committee is aware of the situation in the business environment in Dominica, however, “if this is the only contribution you can make during Carnival, make it in support of one of the young ladies.”
Nonetheless, she stated that the contestants are preparing with the support of the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) and the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA). The contestants are Tasia Floissac, 22, of Castle Comfort; Abigail Shillingford, 19, of Goodwill; Britney Pharoah, 22, of Grand bay; Nawana Shillingford, 25, of Loubiere; Mernel Christmas, 19, of Campbell and Judy Toussaint, 20, of San Sauveur.
The National Queen show is scheduled to take place on February 5, 2016.
