History was made in Dominica as two Dominicans Vivian Titre and Francisca Bellot made free diving history for the island nation of Dominica, Titre diving 21M and Bellot 16M in the inaugural Blue Element Freediving Competition.
The athletic pair Sofia Gomez Uribe and Jonathan Sunnex, hosted the fun and inclusive freediving event last week while also performing at the highest level as participating athletes, topping the competition overall.
The six day competition gained a total of 17 national records, as well as one Pan-American record and the world’s deepest performance by a woman in bi-fins, the latter two of which were attained by Gomez.
Free diving is a male dominated sport but this competition garnered the attention of more female participants with Gomez surpassing all participants including the males with top scores. Despite failing to capture the desired gold, many participants set their personal bests an outcome of which each should be proud.
