Stay has been granted in the case involving a number of Salisbury residents who were arrested under the riot act following protest action in the community last year. That stay was ordered by High Court Judge Bernie Stephenson Thursday.
The residents through their lawyer Cara Shillingford had filed a constitutional motion challenging the constitutionality of the riot act. The government had opposed the application, but Justice Stephenson ordered that the matter be stayed. The defendants were charged for protest action on May 11 and June 11. Both actions have been described as riotous by police.
