Manager of the Abattoir at Layou Park, Michael Etienne, says the testing phase far exceeded their expectations. Testing at the Abattoir was conducted from November 24 – 28, 2015, and according to Etienne, over 3800 birds and 82 pigs were slaughtered and processed at the facility.
Etienne made the announcement during a consultation with stakeholders at the Fisheries Division conference room this week.
Initially, Agriculture Minister Johnson Drigo had announced that 4,000 birds and 250 pigs would be slaughtered and processed during the testing phase. The $10 million Abattoir has been highlighted as one of the pillar projects geared at transforming the agriculture sector. It is expected to be officially opened in January 2016.
