Court finds ACSEAL President Mr Jason Jones failed to point to anything in the Treaty of Chaguarama to support his argument for automatic acceptance of persons with law degrees from UWI into the law schools

Judgment was delivered on the matter where Jason Jones argued that the automatic acceptance of persons graduating with law degrees from the University of the West Indies (UWI) into the law schools, and the requirement for the holders of "non-UWI" law degrees to sit an entrance exam to gain entrance to the law schools, amounts to breaches of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.

Jones is the president and co-founder of the Association of Caribbean Students for equal access to the legal profession (ACSEAL).He cited articles 35, 36, 37 and 46 of the revised treaty and argued that these infractions are restricting participation in the Caribbean single market and economy (CSME).

The court found that Mr. Jones Submission and the Declarations that he sought was incompatible with the treaty to the extent that such an application leads to an unjustified difference in treatment of, or discrimination between holders of law degrees from UWI, and those from non UWI degrees.

The court found that Mr. Jones failed to point to anything in the treaty that would make it arguable that the application of article three of the agreement, violated, or could violate the treaty.
Summary Judgement read by Justice Barrow.

Dominicans had been pleading with the Skerrit-led DLP Administration to use CBI funds to provide stimulus packages for struggling citizens post Hurricane Maria and during the Covid-pandemic. After much reluctance and indecision, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has finally provided an explanation of sorts, for his government’s failure to provide effective stimulus packages with the CBI revenues. He stated that his Ministry decided to save the money in efforts to clear the nation's debt, hoping to reduce it to a low 20%. However, his critics note that Dominica’s National Debt is the highest it has ever been, the country’s debt to GDP ratio is still alarmingly high, and the economy is in shambles.

Former Attorney General Bernard Wilshire revisits pages in history that exposes Shackles and chains as the foundation of the very churches built to serve God. Speaking in recognition of Black History Month, Mr. Wiltshire reminded Dominicans of the People of the south, the Grandbay people who were the very first slaves in Dominica under the whips of the Church. Fast forward today, the chains on the flesh may be gone, but the mind is still enslaved. He is of the view that our education system in Dominica & the Caribbean needs to be revamped and refocused on us.

Former Attorney General Bernard Wilshire says creating a sustainable  economy for citizens to earn a decent living has been unattainable by the DLP Government, and those that preceded them. He was a guest on Q95’s Talk On the Block, hosted by Sean Douglas yesterday afternoon.

He stated that we as a community have a responsibility to ensure that its members are not left behind, or remain in a struggling disposition. Economic self-sufficiency is the ability of individuals and families to maintain sufficient income to consistently meet their basic needs – including food, housing, utilities, health care, transportation, taxes, dependent care, and clothing – with no or minimal financial assistance or subsidies from private or public.

Dominica's bouyon guru, Mr. Ridge - Cross D Bridge, has released a new single, "Chiney Wine", featuring upcoming artists Zaga from St. Martin and Elim Yen from China. The song was sparked into reality when Mr. Ridge met Zaga in St. Martin singing a "Chiney" jam chant on Ridge’s "I want drugs" instrumental. The chant was already making waves on the streets of St. Maarten, but really went viral when Mr. Ridge performed it at one of his concerts in Bellevue. The two then decided to turn it into a full song.

Despite not being officially released, it has already created an online buzz, garnering an astounding 4 million views on TikTok with a "Chiney Wine Challenge" that has captured the attention and participation of persons across the globe, each adding their unique spin to the song. It has become popular among the Chinese audience, which led to Mr. Ridge contacting professional singer Elim Yen to contribute her Chinese musical style to his hit song. After 4 months of back & forth, the hit single has finally been released & features expressive solos from musicians such as Earlson "Lil Man" Mathew from WCK, Jackie Beatz, & Donavan Gabriel.

"Chiney Wine" is Zaga's debut performance. He expressed that it is a good feeling and did not anticipate such a positive reaction from a global audience. "We were just having fun as friends under a tree, freeing up our minds, and the lyrics flowed. I enjoyed working with Mr. Ridge on this song because he is a talented artist. He is a good person to work with, and he knows what he is doing."

Mr. Ridge's latest single brings together a mix of artists and their cultures. "I love collaborating with different artists and musicians on a song. It gives it more character and a unique sound," he expressed.
The song was released on Friday, February 4th, 2022, via the More Sewo YouTube channel with plans of an accompanying music video.
