Justice Dr Irving Andre publicly hails the recommendation proposed by the Eugenia Charles-led Freedom Party in the old Days, when Dominica was in the early stages of framing its constitution. Dr Andre quoted the DFP recommendations on the structure of the court system in Dominica. He upholds the fact that in a democracy, the office of the DPP is independent of the Attorney General’s Office and any other office of government, in the execution of its duties. Speaking on Q95’s Global View on Q program last night, he revealed the compromise agreed upon by the then DLP government and the Opposition Freedom Party led by dame Mary Eugenia Charles. This, as the legal Representative (Attorney Lennox Lawrence) of Roosevelt Skerrit & some other DLP members of the 2014 Election, wrote to Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sherma Dalrymple on March 24, 2021, demanding her interference in the March 9, 2021 ruling of the CCJ and the immediate dismissal of the case altogether. Roosevelt Skerrit and others have been judged by the CCJ to appear before the courts, to answer to the charge of Treating in the 2014 General Elections. Justice Dr. Irving Andre.

DFP Chairman Johnson Boston says there is no comparison between the Eugenia Charles-led Dominica Freedom Party’s financial management of the Economic Citizenship Program and that of the Skerrit-led DLP Administrations CBI Program. He added that accountability for the moneys collected was circulated by the DFP Administration and its Financial Secretary Vs what has been widely classified as the DLP’s complete financial blunder of the program, with no concrete financial reporting delivered to the nation, on the part of the DLP Administration’s Financial Secretary over the past 15 years, is deceptive and worrying. Political Consultant and DFP President, Johnson Boston.
According to Interim Political Leader of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), Bernard Hurtault, the DFP is developing a new vision of what a political party can and should be, in the context of Dominica being a microstate. “Microstate” meaning as many people from the country live in the Diaspora as do on island. Hurtault reveals the team behind this new vision includes Dominican professionals both on island and in the Diaspora. With regard to the rebuilding of the party, Hurtault says the DFP will actively pursue the many talented Dominicans in the Diaspora to bear on the issues in Dominica. Hurtault also speaks to the DFP faction now identifying with the DLP, describing them as “prodigal sons and daughters” who will be welcomed back into the Dominica Freedom party with open arms. He is of the opinion that former members who still believe in the values of the party will naturally gravitate back. DFP Interim Leader, Bernard Hurtault.

Leader of the Opposition Lennox Linton has reacted to Chief Magistrate Candia Carette-George’s letter of response to Attorney Cara Shillingford. Mrs. George’s letter reads: Dear Ms. Shillingford Re: Skerrit et al v Defoe et al CCJ Appeal No DMCV2020/001 I write in response to your letter dated 15th March 2021, in which you requested the hearing date, time and venue set for the above-captioned subject matter. Whenever an appeal court makes a determination in a matter, the appeal court’s decision and instructions are handed down to the Magistrate’s Court, for information and/or necessary action, as the case may be, from the office of the Registrar of the High Court. To date, I have not received any such documents from the Registry in relation to this matter. Please note that as soon as these are forwarded to me, I will be in a position to respond to your questions. Sincerely Candia Carrette-George Chief Magistrate. Meantime, Mr. Linton says he does not believe that the registrar is unaware of her role in this matter, as the judgement of the CCJ transpired on the 9th March. Mr. Linton says this is now starting to look like a delay tactic in play to ensure that the order of the CCJ is not made manifest. Leader of the UWP, Lennox Linton.

DPSU President Steve Joseph calls upon Dominicans in high office whether Private or Public to ‘Lead by Example.’ He advises Prominent Dominicans and Leaders to embrace the concept of continuity, to ensure the future of the country is secure – with large groups of well-rounded Dominicans In reference to the recent pronouncements of Education Minister Octavia Alfred to students who qualified for state scholarships, to “Shake their pampalam” as a means to fund their continuing education, the DPSU President said such statements are inappropriate and warns Leaders to understand the level of Decorum needed to function when holding certain high office in society.
