Both the wholesalers and the retailers for LPG, Gas and Diesel claim they are unable to survive on the distribution margin of 67cents and the retail margin of 70cents given by the government of Dominica. Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton says this is justified given that Dominica has the lowest volumes in the Eastern Caribbean, and these volumes have been significantly depressed further since COVID-19 with the loss of the tourism industry, and the restrictions on movement due to COVID protocols. However; Linton says the cost for the industry players has not changed, with the cases even increasing in some cases. Linton says the only party making money on fuel in Dominica is the government. United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Eastern & Southern Caribbean Mission (ESC) hosted an 8-session Climate Change Symposium on the Ecological and Human Dimensions of Climate Change. Dominica Ministry of Health reveals that Dominica has now confirmed the presence of the Delta Variant on its shores. This was revealed by the Minister of Health Dr. Irving McIntyre at last evening’s Health Covid-19 update. He said the new variant is a more aggressive form of the virus that attacks the lungs in a quicker time. Referencing the recent debt that is said to be owing to Rubis Oil Company in Dominica by the DLP government, UWP member Glenroy Cuffy, claims that the amount owed is EC$ 18Million, and the company’s management have formally publicly revealed its numerous attempts to communicate with government personnel to resolve the outstanding debt. Dominican Youth engage in a project dubbed “Surviving Storms”; Your Stories, Your Experiences, Your Contributions. This project was created from the stories of many resilient Dominicans, who experienced natural disasters in Dominica, from Hurricane David to Hurricane Maria, and everything in between. Dr. Adam Phil, gen Aaron, Lecturer in Anthropology at Goldsmith University London, speaking with Dr Simone Mathieu via Virtual Conference on PushPast10 said, this will hopefully further strengthen our people to keep moving forward with even stronger Roots. Dr. Philogen highlighted the objective and the motives of the project, being to create a map of Dominica which would highlight stories of survival and strength to press on. That’s according to Mrs Delia Cuffy-Weekes, Agricultural Officer and Cultural Stalwart. Mrs. Weekes highlighted Dominican Oral Culture passed down from the elder generations, who’s experiences have been passed on from one generation to the next.
