General Secretary of the United Workers Party (UWP) Nicholas George is speaking out on the registration of elector’s act, andis seeking to educate the general public on critical information they need to know leading up to elections. George who was speaking on a special program of ‘Workers Voice’ on Q95fm Radio, said the Governing party seems not be interested in electoral reform. He explained some of the Governing power of the prime minister as well as the president, as it pertains to Parliament and the electors act. Q95 news has been reliably informed that some appointments of Registering Officers and assistant registering Officers will come into effect as of May 1, 2019.
The Officers appointed Are: Mr. Cleve Edwards for Polling district A01 to A05 in the Castle Bruce Constituency. Ms. Marlisha Mathew has been appointed for polling districts A05 to the North of the Castle Bruce Constituency. Ms. Catherine Robinson is responsible for Polling District M05, spanning from Roseau to the Roseau Central District. Ms. Joyce Jones is the registering Officer for Polling district N04, that’s Upper Goodwill to Roseau North Constituency, and Ms Stella Nicholas, deals with Polling district O06, covering residents from Giraudel to Roseau South Constituency. Following Prime Minister of St Vincent & the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves’ recent remarks that regional carrier LIAT’s closure is imminent, and Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley’s revelation that she was “engaging the European Investment Bank (EIB) for available options in the transportation sector,” Antigua & Barbuda Prime Minister, Gaston Browne will be putting forward a strategic approach for discussion and subsequent approval at LIAT’s shareholders and directors meeting in Barbados on Tuesday.
Previously, Gonsalves noted that regional governments have not been responding to a call for new funding so the shareholders are now reaching a critical point and there will be a transitional restructuring leading to a closure of LIAT. Browne gave the assurance that his government will never allow LIAT to go under, promising to make Antigua’s contribution of US$960,310. This amount represents part of LIAT’s previous request for emergency funding form regional governments totaling US$5.4 million. Antigua & Barbuda has a 13% shareholding in LIAT in addition to its major economic interest of saving the jobs of hundreds of local workers. Dominica’s top Bouyon Band Triple Kay International has signed a new deal with Trinidad based promoter, JC Management. According to a press release,the deal will see JC Management handling booking arrangements for Triple Kay within the Commonwealth Caribbean. JC Management is a music management company led by Jelan Cumberbatch, and has is known for having a wide networking reach, and a plethora of internationally and regionally recognized artistes. Attorney General Levi Peter says Government is committed to taking all the actions necessary to ensure that Dominica does not remain on the EU Blacklist, and that Dominica is not deemed to be uncooperative in tax matters.
