AG Levi Peter questions why the previous AG’s did not implement any of the electoral requests being asked of this administration. The current AG Levi Peter was addressing a question posed by the former AG in regards to what appears to be in the eyes of many unwillingness to deliver voter ID cards before the next general elections. Mr. Peter says it quite clear that the various parties and the various people who are interested in the implementation of Voter Identification cards have settled on the fact that it is needed, but what seems to be the difference of opinions he alluded was, “how” you introduce the cards. He then went on to address the former Ag’s personal portfolio saying that he has been in Government for a number of terms and did not implement any cards when he was given the chance, so why now pressure this administration when history shows that they have been the only party to implement any sort of legislation into the matter. This he says is not fair to him and the image being portrayed isn’t fair. AG peter says that the house of assembly elections act is an act from 1951 and that the registration of elector’s act, is an act from 1974, both of which predates Dominica’s independence. He says that every party has had their chance to impose these reforms, and it is not right to say that this government is opposed to it, when everyone else had their chance. He is advising persons to read the acts, then approach him, and he will advocate on it. AG Levi Peter.
