UWP Senator Dr Thompson Fontaine fears Dominica may soon begin to face CBI related financial issues2/24/2017 UWP Senator Dr Thompson Fontaine is of the view that the absence of CBI funds will not bode well for Dominica, as the DLP Government appears to be depending to a large extent on that single source of funds at present.
He expressed fears that Dominica may soon begin to face financial issues, as more International Banks could refuse to transact the country’s business that is connected to the CBI program. Fontaine called on Dominicans to pay close attention, as he predicts that the governing DLP Administration will eventually lay blame at the feet of the Opposition UWP.

Opposition Leader concerned that more International Banks may refuse to do business with Government2/23/2017 Opposition Leader Lennox Linton is expressing concern, that more International Banks may be refusing to do business with the Government of Dominica.
Recently, news is said to have surfaced, about the alleged refusal by certain banks, to conduct business associated with Dominica’s CBI Program. The Opposition Leader says, if that is the case, given Dominica’s excessive dependence on the CBI Program, this could likely become a major issue for the country’s economy. DFP Leader Michael Astaphan is calling on Police Commissioner Daniel Carbon, to advise Minister of National Security Rayburn Blackmore, and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, to apologize to the nation, for a statement they made regarding the unrest which occurred on the eve of 7th February 2017.
Astaphan says he heard the two ministers on local radio recently, praising Police Officers for not firing shots at the rioters in Roseau. However, Astaphan claims that there is video evidence showing Police chasing and firing shots at civilians, during the unrest. Roseau Central MP Joseph Isaac says he was not associated with any vandalism on 7th February 20172/23/2017 Roseau Central MP Joseph Isaac, in an exclusive interview with Q95FM Radio said, some supporters of the DLP have accused him of encouraging young men to vandalize the building of Attorney Duncan Stowe on Tuesday 7th February 2017. Isaac said emphatically, that he was never involved in any violent act which occurred on Tuesday 7th February, and according to reports, court records may now show that a young man actually testified in court, to vandalizing Mr Stowe’s building, because of an alleged affair that Duncan Stowe may have had with his girlfriend. Meanwhile, Roseau Central MP Joseph Isaac is of the view there are people in high office, who are afraid the United Workers Party, and are attempting to frame the opposition leader and Executive members of the UWP.
Isaac says he stands firm in upholding the current principles of the UWP, and will not condone the practice of falsifying information and evidence, to advance political agendas, from any administration. The Final Stardom Tent for the 2017 Carnival Season climaxed at Lalay Coco in Loubiere on Wednesday night. The Calypsonians competed for a bedroom set, compliments of Courts Dominica.
Public Relations officer of the Stardom Tent, Leroy Wadix Charles says the show was a memorable event for the patrons, with ‘Daddy Chess’ emerging as Stardom Monarch of the Tent, followed by ‘Jenius’ in 2nd Place, Karessah 3rd, and Janae coming in 4th place. Meantime, Charles said he is satisfied with the outcome of the Stardom Tents for the 2017 Carnival season. Musicians in Dominica tasked to play a more influential role in the lives of students on the Island2/23/2017 Musicians across the island have been tasked with playing a more influential role in the lives of Dominican students. A workshop for band members, managers and DJs as part of a Public Relations Campaign for the Child Friendly Schools Initiative got underway here Wednesday morning. The initiative was organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with UNICEF. The purpose of this workshop was to raise the awareness of band members and DJs about Child Protection issues which should influence their production and dissemination of music. Education Minister Petter St Jean said individuals in the music industry must recognise their influence on the country's youth. Police announce new street parade route and traffic arrangements for Carnival Monday & Tuesday2/23/2017 Persons coming to the city for Carnival Monday and Tuesday Street Jump-Up and Parades, are being advised by Police, of the new traffic arrangements to enter and leave Roseau.
This as police announce a new carnival route for 2017. This new route includes the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard; so unlike previous years, bands are being ordered to proceed west along King George 5th Street, from the intersection of Independence Street to the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard, then onto the intersection of Kennedy Avenue, and continue East along Kennedy Ave to Independence Street. This new route eliminates Hanover Street which was used as part of the street parade over the past years. Police Superintendent Richmond Valentine outlines the arrangements for vehicular traffic, to and out of Roseau on Monday and Tuesday. Twenty-nine (29) persons involved in Health and National Response are this week participating in a Mass Casualty training exercise.
Mass Casualty Management (MCM) has been highlighted as an area of critical priority for the Ministry of Health and Environment, and over the years, training has been undertaken for health personnel to include representatives from the National Health Agencies. According to a release, recent events such as road traffic crashes involving many passengers, and the effects of climate change, most notable the impact of Tropical Storm Erika, has indicated the need to enhance Dominica's response capacity, by training more personnel at both the community level and the hospital in MCM. It stated further, that the goal of the training is to better equip staff to respond to emergencies and disasters, with the intention that the emergency response capacities of all District Health Teams and first responders will be strengthened. The training target persons within the Ministry of Health, Fire & Ambulance services, Red Cross, Cadet Corp and the Police Force. The training exercise commenced on 20th February 2017, and will end on Friday 24th February 2017, with a final simulation exercise, which may go into the early hours of the morning. Last week, Dominica’s opposition leader Lennox Linton along with other members of the parliamentary opposition, travelled to Guyana during the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM Meeting, for the purpose of shedding light on the current situation in Dominica. Martin says, it was a brilliant move by the parliamentary opposition, and praised them for the initiative. Carnival Road Committee says no injunctions will be filed against 2017 band of the year winner?2/23/2017 Deputy Chairperson of the Carnival Road Committee Charlene White-Christian has stated that there will be no injunctions filed against the winner of the 2017 band of the year. This follows events of last year, where two Carnival bands filed injunctions against the Dominica Festivals Committee on the awarding of Band of the Year to Afro-Culture Stilt Walkers. Christian while addressing a press conference Wednesday said this was a collective decision taken by the costume bands that will be participating in this year's carnival parade. Meantime, Christian announced that four primary schools will participate in the newly design shirts section of the Carnival parade this year.
