Prime Minister Mia Mottley has reiterated that while Barbados welcomes the Jamaica based Sandals Resort International - SRI Beaches project, "it can't be at any price."
Winding up debate on the 2019-2020 debate in Parliament on Monday night, Prime minister Mottley, who is also the Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment, sought to clarify her administration's position on the multi-million dollar project as she responded to Sandals officials who had denied her previous assertions that the hotel chain sought excessive and unprecedented concessions, including indemnification against tax advantages granted future hotel developers. She told legislators, "If you are simply asking for what was promised then there is no issue. I have stood here and I have stood elsewhere and said that the government of Barbados remains committed to the two agreements signed by the previous Minister of Finance, we don't like what he did, we abhor what he did, but by the rule of law, by a country governed by the rule of law that we stand by it." Unvaccinated people under age 18 are banned from public places in Rockland County, New York, as of midnight Wednesday, according to John Lyon, director of strategic communications for County Executive Ed Day.
Day announced the order Tuesday. The declaration is an effort to contain an outbreak of measles that began in October; 153 cases have been confirmed in the county. "We're not punishing the people who are doing the right thing already and following the rules. We just want to encourage everyone to do the right thing so we can stop this outbreak," Lyon said. The step is "extremely unusual. [We] don't believe it's been done anywhere in the country before." "State law gives health departments authority to broadly implement control measures in response to outbreaks," Jason McDonald, a spokesman for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, wrote in an email, noting that the CDC provides technical assistance to state and local health departments. Productivity Consultant and Businessman, Parry Bellot, continues to express his views regarding the operations for Liat. Bellot told Q95 news on Sunday, Dominica’s government must demand that two qualified citizens be given a seat on the board of the cash strapped Airline, so that Dominica’s interests in aviation advancement are regarded. Bellot also believes an expert in aviation needs to be appointed to the board to provide an independent management audit, in an effort to determine appropriate restructuring which would create a leaner Airline. Speaking to Q95 news on Monday, Bellot additionally advised stakeholders to close down the Liat Airline and re-launch under a new brand and new executive, as was the case with BVI Airlines, in times past.
