Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says that the opposition members are free to challenge the DSS, and states that if UWP were in power during this Covid-19 pandemic, Dominica would be dead. These statements came via telephone interview on Tuesday morning, whilst the prime minister was addressing the subject of the opposition wanting to put an injunction on the DSS making monies available to the people. He says that the DSS engaged the actuary who then advised them, that it would it be remised of the DSS to not play a part to support its membership. Massacre Sports Facility currently under construction Massacre Sports Facility Upgrade Back on Stream
Work has recommenced on the Massacre Sports Facility and with an upgraded version to the previous structure. The structure will now be a completely enclosed facility with the accompanying seating. The new Indoor facility will serve basketball, netball and volleyball and will also cater for other indoor activities such as boxing. The facility will be complimented with change rooms and washrooms among others. The contractors are projecting that the enclosure will be complete in the next six weeks, following which the other phases will commence. Tuesday Sports Coordinator, Trevor Shilling ford accompanied the Permanent Secretary, Lucien Blackmore on a tour of the facility to see the ongoing progress. Pastor Randy Rodney says the fact we only have 3 active Covid-19 cases in Dominica at this time, is wonderful and speaks volumes. He continued to commend everyone involved in this process, as it reflects Dominica to be somewhat advanced compared to our sister islands. He says Dominica has continued to prove itself against this Covid-19 virus, and from 1st April when the first case was announced, to an escalation of 16 cases, to now three cases on 25th April, is wonderful. Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says the DLP Government is sticking to their plans and to instructions given to them by the World Health Organization (WHO). He made these statements via telephone interview. He said presently, persons can see the plans unfolding as the days go by, and that come 4th May, we can quite possibly see the further relaxing of certain social protocols. He added that the Government is continuing to function, as it relates to projects, from agriculture health, and the lot. Host of the ‘Kingdom Connection’ program on Q95, Pastor Randy Rodney commended the health officials, the police force and other frontline workers for successfully containing the coronavirus (COVID-19) on island. Active coronavirus cases currently remain at 3. In his ‘Talking points commentary’, Rodney also commended Dominicans themselves for following the numerous protocols implemented and urged everyone to continue to pay special attention to the protocols intended to keep the citizenry safe. Meanwhile, Rodney joined others in condemning the disrespect directed at the Prime Minister by overseas based Dominican university students over the weekend. He described the ordeal as ‘unfortunate’ and stated the office of Prime Minister has to be respected. Leader of the United Workers Party Lennox Linton says Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is now picking bits and pieces from the strategies contained in the UWP economic stimulus package. Mr. Linton says at the time the UWP put together their plans and presented it, the prime minister had no plan; and he is therefore happy that the government is using the oppositions blueprint. He says his concerns are founded on the fact that there are no specifics as to where the monies will be coming from.
