Former agricultural minister and agronomist Atherton Martin says that we are watching a country fall apart. He says that the country’s main areas of productivity are not functioning. He says that the institutions of this country Dominica have been mashed up. Martin uses the word non-functional selectively, meaning that it only works for one set, and not in the interest of the Dominican people as a whole. He questions whether or not we are better off than we were forty years ago from May 29, 1979 to date. He made these remarks on Tuesday evening, and challenged the President of Dominica Charles Savarin to explain the historical significance of May 29, 1979. He says persons like the President of Dominica, who know better and remember their history, have become strangers to the truth of the very struggle for our 40-year ambition as country. Meantime, Martin expresses his views on the level of lack of moral conscience being displayed by some prominent persons who are supposed to be examples in society. Martin commented on the level of corruption being displayed by people in high positions of society, who know better. He claims, “there Is no legitimizing the actions of someone who knows what is wrong and still does it.” Martin was speaking about a statement made by a Catholic Priest, who proudly expressed his love for a prime minister in sharp contrast to his derogatory comments about his own brother. Martin says it is almost like saying he loves the devil, especially if he is aware of the corruption taking place. This Martin says reflects the blackness which is his true colors.
