A campaign to support the cooperative business model in Dominica, through the "Koudmeh" spirit, was created by the Cooperative Division of the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Community Development to mark Cooperatives Day. The program aims to achieve this in three ways: by promoting all cooperative movement activities in Dominica; by promoting all cooperatives' goods and services; and by engaging all potential cooperators in the conversation. Central cooperative credit union member, Ms. Lorna Henderson Reid says as we think about the theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World” we also need to think about how cooperatives in Dominica might improve Dominica. She continues, as a financial and non-financial movement, we should support each other; we can build by just keeping the memory alive; and after a century, there are major accomplishments to recognize and learn from our ancestors and participate in a range of programs and activities. Meantime, Senior cooperative officer at the cooperative development division, Mr. Rennick Toussaint claims that what most impresses him is the degree of collaboration and voluntarism that has led to the current state of division, and he thinks that as young people, we must cling to and grip onto this. On or about June 17, 2022 images flooded social media of a young man on a motorcycle in the center of Roseau discharging his pistol in the air. Others in the motorcycle gang around the gunman aggressively revved the engines of their motorcycles, amidst the din and clutter on a major thoroughfare in the capital city. The quiet night was punctuated by gunfire as youngsters walked about nonchalantly as if this was acceptable behavior.
Those grim images on Dominica were associated with a memorial for a young man who had been gunned down on the Roseau Bayfront less than a week earlier. His death was one more grim statistic on our beloved island of seven murders in less than seven months, with a population of no more than seventy thousand souls. Not one policeman could be seen in videos of that rowdy gathering and gunplay in a public space. Not one press conference was held by the government of Dominica or the private sector organization, to address what was a blatant example of the breakdown of law and order in Dominica. Is that how we intend to attract tourism or investment to Dominica? Indeed, the images reminded me of the cowboy pistoleros portrayed on screen in some dusty US town during our viewing of western movies at the Carib or Arawak Cinemasin Dominica back in the day. It is my observation that the lack of playgrounds, youth leadership in organization and a creeping acceptance of lawlessness in high places have fostered crime & destroyed the once peaceful Dominica we knew. Look out for more episodes from Attorney Gabriel Christian in our news packages this evening and tomorrow Wednesday and on Thursday. Adopted Mother of the Missing Kernisha Ettienne, Ms. Mischa Bruno speaks out and seeks to clarify some of the misconceptions surrounding the missing 12-year-old.This case has brought several key social issues to light, some of which include the need for better Psychosocial rehabilitation facilities, proper police training and apparatus for search and rescue operations, as well more transparency between law enforcement officials and the average citizens among other things. It has also raised a number of unanswered questions, which in turn have led to a social media speculation & misinformation. To date Ms. Ettienne has not been found, the key suspect Kean Alexander has been killed, and the cause of his death is a still an enigma, which some allege may fit the profile of an example of an extrajudicial killing. Seeking to give a better understanding of the relationship between the alleged Deceased kidnapping suspect and herself, Ms. Bruno said she never really knew Kyan, he was someone she saw and knew he was mentally unstable, and she herself was afraid of him. She also explained how devastated she was when she found out Kernisha was missing, and how it caused her a lot of pain, in being unable to find her. Speaking to the many accusations levelled against her, she simply stated that, “it appears the naysayers know everything, so they should come forward with the truth, I am a child of God and I will stand by truth, regardless of any threat of death or Jail.” Adopted Mother of the Missing Kernisha Ettienne, Ms. Mischa Bruno

While it is important to emphasize that a miscarriage is an extremely difficult experience, Guidance Counselor Mrs. Antonia Yankee explains that frequently, people are unaware of how traumatizing it is and how it can have many psychological impacts. Mrs. Yankee noted that depression and anxiety are two of these impacts. Extreme symptoms include something known as post-traumatic stress disorder, when a person may have trouble sleeping or even reliving the incident. Every person is unique, she said, and just like the psychological repercussions, a miscarriage may be extremely devastating for a woman who has already given birth, compared to someone who is aware that they may carry a pregnancy to term and not be adversely affected. Everything depends on the particular person, their stage in life, and even how society views them. Mrs. Yankee concluded by saying that while there are many ways to cope with the traumatic event of a miscarriage, having a strong social network is crucial. Apart from having a strong support system, some people only require more therapy and psychological assistance. Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Antonia Yankee.
