Dominica expected to make a lot of green in blue soap industry this coming year with soap chips expected to enter at zero per cent tariffs. That’s according to Dominica’s Director Trade, Matthan Walter, who says that Dominica is now the only CARICOM producer of blue soap through the process of saponification, allowing Dominica’s blue soap to monopolize the market. Jamaica’s Blue Power soap has been relegated and will not benefit from preferential treatment in CARICOM, resulting in an automatic victory for Dominica’s blue soap manufacturer, DCP Successors. Cabrits Resort & Spa Kempinski Dominica, the latest addition to Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group, opened its doors to guests on October 14. Jungle Bay Dominica also reopened earlier this year, at a new location and we anticipate the reopening of Rosalie Bay Eco-Resort in February 2020. Gratitude is extended to the staff of the Authority for their hard work in the successful execution of the 21st edition of Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival. Continued collaboration, inclusive of press and familiarization trip initiatives, between DDA and industry partners has resulted in several accolades and mentions being bestowed on the destination in 2019. We are also delighted to share the good news of the 100% pass rate in the AHLEI Certification Training. In closing, we invite you to Mas Domnik 2020 which will run from January 18 – February 26. Member of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) Loftus Durand, is encouraging Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to be more proactive in delivering on the promises made to people and the state by his government, especially in terms of his announcement thatcomprehensive Electoral Reformswill be undertaken within the first 100 days after the December 6, 2019 General Elections. The Concerned Citizens Movement is also cautioning Prime Minister Skerrit that he must not involve himself, or in any way meddle, with the role and activities of the Electoral Commission. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is calling on the opposition UWP to unify under one government in Dominica, and curiously added that the true color of Christmas is ‘Red’.After having taken unto himself the Ministries of Finance, Resilience, Economic Affairs, Investment, Planning, Sustainable Development, Telecommunications and Broadcasting,he made that statement at a DLP victory celebrations rally on Saturday 21st December 2019, which included entertainment from international artist ‘Busy Signal’ as well as local artists. Supporters were provided with free food and free drinks for the entire night. The opposition has however made their position clear by stating that they do not recognize this DLP government as it is in their view illegitimate, and is seeking redress in the courts, and hopes for new elections immediately after satisfactory electoral reforms are undertaken with the next 90 days or so. Meantime, many Dominicans are of the view that, to ask the United Workers Party (UWP) to join hands with the DLP Regime that they are convinced stole the elections, is a bit farfetched, and have argued that this is nothing more than a political gimmick by Mr Skerrit. Mr Skerrit emphasized that the true colour of Christmas celebrations is red and that the DLP is going to be around for a very long time. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
